The Film: Thanos, already one of the most powerful beings in the universe, seeks the power of all seven infinity stones: power, space, reality, soul, time and mind stones, in order to fulfill his dark vision of reshaping the overpopulated cosmos. When word gets back to Earth that Thanos is on his way for the two infinity stones he knows to be there, The Avengers, Earth’s mightiest heroes, must set aside their differences and prepare for the ultimate showdown to save the universe. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy respond to a distress call coming from the recently destroyed Asgard, home of Thor.
Over the course of nearly ten years of hero introductory films and sequels from Marvel Studios, audiences around the world have been treated to some of the most awesome action adventure spectacles ever put to film. In what has seemed like a never ending series of hero introductory films and sequels, almost 20 films and numerous TV series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally reached its climax. With a top billing of nearly 20 names, seven of whom have starred in their own Marvel films and sequels, Avengers: Infinity War is a monumental achievement in its own right despite the successes of the first two Avengers films. Not only does Infinity War take place after four new introductory hero films (Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, & Black Panther), it also incorporates the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team.
So just how can this many heroes share one film together? The ingenious script of Infinity War separates the heroes into different groups, all with specific tasks that aim to either defend, thwart, or outright defeat Thanos in his quest to obtain all seven infinity stones. With so many heroes, the opportunity for A LOT of badass character reveals are there, and I’m happy to report they are fully taken advantage of and chills will be felt! Also, as to be expected, there are many awesome suit and equipment upgrades that allow some of the heroes to unlock their near full potential. This, combined with almost every character getting his or her moment of glory in Infinity War, is sure to immensely satisfy all fans whomever their favorite hero may be.
Thanos, hinted at since his post credit cameo in the first Avengers film, lives up to his nearly 6 year build up as the baddest man in the universe. He’s everything you want in a villain: multidimensional, idealistically flawed, almost likable, and powerful beyond belief. After Heath Ledger’s legendary performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight (2008) of course, Josh Brolin brings all the gravitas a character like Thanos needs to in order to be convincing enough to single-handedly take on almost all of the Avengers himself, and solidifies himself a spot in film history as one of cinemas newest classic bad guys for the ages. It also helps that all of the digital effects work that help to bring Thanos to life are nothing short of stunning.
Just when it seemed like the MCU was getting too silly and playful with some of its recent outings, Infinity War more than makes up for with its dark and gritty opening, taking place in the aftermath of Asgard’s destruction from Thor: Ragnarok (2017). Continuing throughout the film, battles are intense, and harsh consequences exist for the heroes this time around. The comedic moments do not feel forced as they did in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), but more natural and seamlessly blend with the action and drama as it did with Avengers (2012).
As a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, Infinity War comes with more anticipation than any film in modern history, rivaling the Star Wars franchise sequels and prequels. Having the privilege to have experienced both, never have I been more satisfied when expectations and hopes were so high. Avengers: Infinity War is everything I wanted and more: An engaging story that traverses the galaxy, breathtaking visuals, epic battle sequences that span multiple uniquely designed worlds, high drama and real stakes all packed into 2 hours and 40 minutes of near nonstop action. Avengers: Infinity War is not just the pay off movie after 10 years of some of the biggest studio blockbuster films in history building it up, it actually turns out to be one of the best sci-fi action adventure movies ever made, period. 10/10 – Everything I wanted & More!
