Cannes 2017 – Korean Films

4 Korean Films will premiere at Cannes Film Festival 2017

Two Korean films have been selected as part of the “in competition” category at this year’s prestigious Cannes film festival! Bong Joon-ho’s Okja, which features an international cast similar to his previous film, Snowpiercer, will get its long awaited premiere along with the latest film from Hong Sang-soo, The Day After, fresh off the domestic release of his latest controversial yet critically acclaimed film, On the Beach at Night Alone.

Another two Korean films will be featured out of competition as part of the “midnight screenings” program as well. The first is The Villainess, a stylistic revenge film from director Jung Byoung-gil that has an amazing poster that should make you all kinds of excited. Also to be screened is The Merciless, a gangster film written and directed by Byun Sung-hyun and a big leap in style from his 2012 adult romance, My P.S. Partner (Watchya Wearin’?), one of my favorite romantic dramedies. 2017 is setting up to be an awesome year for fans of Korean cinema!
